Biography

  • Associate Professor of environmental science in the School of Biological Sciences and the Swire Institute of Marine Science at The University of Hong Kong
  • Research focuses on the spatio-temporal dynamics of large-scale biodiversity patterns, the impact of climate on species diversity, and the controlling factor(s) of biodiversity pattern/change in deep-sea, shallow-marine and pelagic ecosystems
  • RFS project — to conduct “Time Machine Biology”, a synthetic palaeobiological research to understand the past ecosystem and biodiversity in Hong Kong. The research employs a deep-learning automation system that could expedite the identification process needed in the fields of paleoecology, historical ecology and paleoclimatology
  • Awards and Honours:
    • RGC Research Fellow (2022)
    • The 20th Biwako Prize for Ecology, The Ecological Society of Japan (2019)
    • The Academic Award, The Paleontological Society of Japan (2018)
