SRFS project — to analyze various impacts on modelling performance based on a general migration model with many explanatory variables, in addition to population and distance in a simple gravity model, help to reach a better understanding of the migration process

沈建法是香港中文大學地理與資源管理系教授、城市與區域發展研究中心主任。他是國際地理聯合會人口地理委員會副主席、中國地理學會人口地理專業委員會副主任。

他的研究領域包括人口遷移與城市化、城市與區域發展、香港與珠江三角洲。在香港研資局等來源的資助下，他在這些領域進行了大量研究，為理論與方法的發展以及實證分析與應用做出了貢獻，例如建立雙軌城市化框架以及中國人口遷移模式改變的原因。他在主要的國際期刊《專業地理學家》、《城市研究》和《區域研究》等發表了重要的著作。《中國的城市化、區域發展與治理》一書2018年由勞特利奇出版。根據《城市研究》發表的論文，他是1990-2010年世界上城市研究領域前50名最有生產力的学者之一。他於2007-08和2013-14年度兩次獲得中文大學卓越研究獎。

他的項目將使用創新的模擬方法分析遷移模型的誤差來源。模型誤差可以由遺漏重要的變量，隨機過程錯誤假設和隨機過程引起。在以前的遷移模型研究中，各種模型誤差匯總為一個指標。他的項目將解決這一挑戰，使用創新的方法識別各種錯誤。項目將增加遷移建模的知識，更準確地分析遷移流。
