Biography

  • Lam Wong Yiu Wah Chair Professor of Visual Studies and Director of Film and Creative Industries at Lingnan University
  • published nine books and over 60 academic articles, some of which have been translated into French, Japanese, Spanish, and Hungarian.
  • This project will complete a monograph on the early film culture of Hong Kong. Tentatively titled “Cinema and the Colonial Dispositif: Early Screen Culture in Hong Kong (1897 to 1925).  The project will delineate the symbiosis between early movie shows and established forms of entertainment in Hong Kong; it will also explain the relations between screen culture with colonial governance in that the cinema practice is part of the aggregate of institutional, physical, and administrative mechanisms and knowledge structures that maintain and enhance the exercise of power within society.
