Award Citation

Prof. Zijian Zheng currently is Professor at the Institute of Textile and Clothing, Associate Director of the Research Institute of Wearable Intelligent Systems, and Associate Director of the University Research Facility in Materials Characterization and Device Fabrication at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Prof. Zheng received his B. Eng. in Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2003, and PhD in Chemistry at University of Cambridge in 2007 (Supervisor: Prof. Wilhelm T. S. Huck). In 2008-2009, he worked as Postdoctoral Research Associate with Prof. Chad A. Mirkin at the International Institute for Nanotechnology at Northwestern University. He joined PolyU as Assistant Professor in 2009, and was promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2013 and then Professor in 2017. His research interests include surface and polymer science, nanofabrication, flexible and wearable electronics, energy conversion and storage. Prof. Zheng is well known for the original contributions to the developments of fibrous metallic materials, permeable electronics for stretchable and wearable applications, high-performance flexible optoelectronic electrodes and devices, fiber-based supercapacitors and batteries, and various unconventional nanofabrication tools. Prof. Zheng has published ~140 papers in high-impact journals such as Science, Nat. Mater., Nat. Comm., Adv. Mater., JACS, Angew. Chem. etc, and delivered more than 150 invited talks in international conferences and symposiums. He serves as Guest Editor of Advanced Materials and Small, and Editor-in-Chief of EcoMat, a flagship open-access journal in green energy and environment published by Wiley. He is Editorial Board Member of Advanced Energy Materials (Wiley) and npj Flexible Electronics (Springer Nature). Prof. Zheng also files 25+ patents and is recipient of more than 15 academic awards. He is elected Founding Member of The Young Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong, and Chang Jiang Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education of China.
