Award Citation

Professor Zuowei Xie is a Choh-Ming Li Professor of Chemistry at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He is a member of The Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Xie obtained a B.Sc. from Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University) in 1983, his M.Sc. in 1986 and PhD in 1990 from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), the Chinese Academy of Sciences, working in a joint PhD program between SIOC and Technische Universitӓt Berlin. He joined the chemistry department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995 as Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Chair Professor in 2006. His main research interests include organometallic and main group chemistry. He is distinguished for his work in the areas of carboranes, supercarboranes, metallacarboranes, and low-valent boron chemistry. He has made significant contributions to controlled functionalization of carboranes and supercarborane chemistry. Professor Xie has co-authored over 300 papers in top international journals. His distinguished work has been highlighted several times in Chemical & Engineering News. Professor Xie received several prestigious awards including the State Natural Science Prize in 2008, Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards in Natural Sciences (2019), the Chinese Chemical Society Yao-Zeng Huang Award in Organometallic Chemistry (2010), and the Croucher Award from the Croucher Foundation (2003).
